Restart Computer…

Hell No, I don’t think so! I no longer have to restart my computer every time Microshit… I mean Microsoft wants to update it with another security patch, or some other windows based software program wants to do the same thing.

Why? Linux was made to be a server. It can literally run all the time with no problems. Now I admit, although I am knowledgeable about the Windows (NT) based systems, I am far from an “X”-”Spurt”, But at one time I did install “IIS” (Internet Information Server) on my XP box along with .net, asp, etc and granted most web servers at least, don’t have a local user playing on them all the time; so a real Windows Server probably doesn’t get updated all the time like a home computer does.

But today I was doing, or I should say, my computer was doing a whole bunch of stuff all at once and I noticed that little icon on the panel (panel = taskbar, I have two!) which told me updates were available. (Notice that I had to notice that… no annoying pop-up windows telling me over and over that there was something to update! )

So I updated! The system didn’t even burp! It just did it’s job along with all of my jobs and most importantly it never told me I had to “restart” for the updates to take effect! Now that’s totally cool.

If your not a Linux person. You should be. Number one, it’s free! Number two, yes it does come with all the normal office style programs: word processor, spread sheets, presentation, graphics, email, etc. all ready and enabled when you install. And all available through “windows” (please note the little “w”).

Did I mention it was free! You can buy it if you want… you just don’t have to! Ah hell.. go to Google, Type in “Linux”… and welcome to the world where computers do the work and human beings are left to do the imagining!

Now that’s a computer!
